Dear Photo Walkers,
Well, what can I say… October 2016 was a great month!
With growing followers on both Facebook and Instagram, our little group experienced unprecedented interest in our events, resulting in an almost 50-person group joining us on our walk on October 30th 2016 to the Augarten.
When I planned the walk, mid-month, the idea was: late October, gold-and-crimson foliage, brooding clouds and a little bit of sunshine. And, for once, it happened just as we hoped it would: the weather (though very chilly) was lovely, and the Augarten – a location our club had not visited in the past – proved to be an dramatic setting for a photo shoot. For those not familiar with the site, here’s some basic information from Wien.Info:
The Augarten is a public park with a size of 52.2 hectares that has the oldest baroque garden in Vienna. It is located in the second Viennese municipal district. Arranged in the French style, the garden offers not only a ground-floor area with elaborate flower landscapes but also an extensive network of shady avenues lined with chestnut trees, elms, lime trees, ash trees and maple trees. The Augarten is also home to a wide range of operations, such as the Vienna Boys’ Choir in the Augartenpalais, the Augarten Porcelain Manufactory, the Porcelain Museum, and the Austrian Film Archive. The sinister Flaktuerme, that dominate the skyline of the park, are of course a somber reminder of historic events that took place in this very city, not that long ago.

A big thank you to everyone who came, again – there were so many new faces this time! – and I hope to see you again in the future. Thanks to all of you, we have a staggering 68 photos to choose from for our October 2016 Photo Contest; voting ends tonight (November 13) so please vote for your favorite photos (by ‘liking’ as many shots as you like, except your own, whether you attended the walk or not) by the end of the day.
Below are some pictures (not submitted to the contest) taken by our photo walkers on the day; thank you for sharing these with the group, guys!
Have a great weekend, and see you at the next photo walk (details to be announced asap). As always: you may bring partners, friends, and kids. The only ‘must’ – an interest in photography. And, as always, absolutely all cameras (smartphone, compact camera, disposable, polaroid, DSLR, etc) are welcome.
