For our January event of Vienna Photo Walk we met near the Leopold Museum steps, trying to escape the icy wind. We were lucky with the weather though – there could have been a hail or snow storm, and even had some sunshine later during the walk. Our group of fabulous people then braced themselves for our zig-zagging walk from the Museums Quartier, through the 7th and 8th’s district.
We explored a little of Spittelberg, then circled around St. Ulrich church before a short break at Galerie Kandinsky (web site) to warm up. Our route then took us via Lerchenfelder Strasse to Strozzigasse to head along the functional looking Pfeilgasse.
At the top of Tigergasse we made a real find with the newly opened Wiener Rösthaus (web site / Facebook page), where we had a lovely warming coffee/tea. The owners are lovely people with a gorgeous little kid who LOVED to be photographed!
The last leg of our route took us around Hamerling park, past Café Hummel down Bennogasse. The last visual find of the day was the fountain and beautiful building on Albertgasse, before we finished our walk at Die Wäscherei (web site / Facebook page). Some of us then continued to chat inside over a bite to eat and a drink.
We had many interesting conversations about the use of histogram display for taking photos, how to shoot in manual and whether it is ok to shoot in ‘P’ mode for snapshots. Even lenses were being swapped to try out.
All in all, a fabulous way to spend a frosty Saturday morning!
